About Brian James

Brian James Gillette built a steady legal career out of two durable interests: law and numbers. He earned a B.S. in Marketing and Finance from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1989 and followed that with a J.D. from the College of William and Mary in 1992. Those credentials set the stage for work that would move between courtroom advocacy and the procedural details of claims and appeals.

Gillette began his legal practice shortly after law school, joining Lloyd J. Eisenberg & Associates, P.A. as an associate in 1993. He moved to Greenberg & Bederman, LLP in 1995 as a litigation associate. By 1999 he was a senior litigation lawyer at Huffman & Huffman, Brothers-In-Law, P.C. He opened his own office in 2007 and became the managing lawyer at Gillette Law Group, PLLC. Each step added responsibility and deeper experience in contested administrative matters and civil litigation.

Licensed in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, Gillette has concentrated much of his practice on Social Security disability claims and related litigation. He has represented clients in hearings before administrative law judges and in appeals, handling the procedural and evidentiary work that such cases require. He has been active in professional circles that center on disability practice. He has been a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives since 2009 and has served as chair of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s Social Security Law Section since 2012.

Colleagues describe his courtroom style as deliberate. He prepares for hearings with an eye to the medical and vocational records that shape disability decisions. He also handles the client-facing work — intake, case development and the paperwork that often determines whether a claim proceeds. Over time his practice shifted from general litigation to a narrower set of administrative remedies and appeals.

Today he runs Gillette Law Group, PLLC, where he represents clients in Social Security disability claims and related litigation.
