About Brian J

Brian J Elliott trained for law in Miami and later returned to study business strategy at Harvard. He earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1996. Years later he completed a program in Disruptive Strategy at Harvard University, adding a business-minded layer to a legal education grounded in traditional practice.

His career moves through corporate, financial and technology environments. He began in risk management after law school, serving as an assistant vice president in risk management for a national banking organization in 1997. In 2002 he took on a senior role overseeing business and legal affairs for companies in cloud technology, SaaS and hardware. He moved into in-house counsel positions in the 2010s, acting as general counsel for a fast-growth e-commerce company in 2012 and later as corporate counsel at a private investment firm in 2017. In 2015 he established Elliott.law, operating as a lawyer for clients outside the in-house context. In 2020 he became a partner and practice group leader at Scale LLP.

Elliott’s work spans corporate transactions, technology licensing, privacy compliance and emerging technologies. He holds professional privacy credentials: Certified Information Privacy Manager and Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He also holds a Certified Blockchain Expert credential from the Blockchain Council. He is admitted to practice in Nevada, Georgia and Texas, and maintains memberships that include the Texas Board of Realtors.

Those varied roles have left him comfortable at the intersection of law and operations. He has handled contract negotiation for software and cloud deals, advised boards and executives on risk management, and assisted companies in building privacy programs that reflect US privacy standards. He also counsels clients on issues related to blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, attempting to translate technical concepts into practical legal terms.

He divides his time between his partnership role at Scale LLP and his independent practice under the Elliott.law name. He currently concentrates on corporate work, technology and privacy matters across multiple jurisdictions.
