About Brian Clifford
Brian Clifford Freeman built his legal foundation at Skidmore College, where he earned a B.A. in Government, and at Western New England University School of Law, where he received a J.D. His early years in the law were shaped by a clerkship in the Superior Court Family Part in Hudson County, New Jersey, in 1982. That clerkship preceded a series of in-house and government roles that broadened his exposure to municipal and public-sector law.
In the 1980s Freeman moved into counsel positions for public agencies. He served as Associate General Counsel for the Newark Housing and Redevelopment Authority in 1983 and later as Deputy Lawyer General for the New Jersey Department of Public Safety in 1986. Those roles gave him experience in administrative practice and municipal matters. He entered private practice at the end of the decade, joining the Law Offices of Brown and Childress as an associate in 1990.
The 1990s and 2000s brought partnerships and the launch of his own firms. He became partner at Law Office of Freeman and Gertner P.C. in 1992. In 2005 he opened the Law Offices of Brian C Freeman, LLC as owner. He later joined Freeman Hughes Freeman, LLC as a partner in 2012, and in 2015 he became a partner at Freeman Law Center, LLC. In 2019 he accepted a seat on the Board of Directors for NorthEast Legal Services, a role that connects him to regional access-to-justice efforts.
Freeman holds admissions in several jurisdictions. He is licensed to practice in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, and he has admissions in the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials reflect a career that spans local and federal practice settings.
Professional associations run deep in his résumé. He has been a member of the American Bar Association since 1990 and joined the New Jersey State Bar Association in 2000. He served as President of the Garden State Bar Association and is a life member of the National Bar Association. Locally he has been active in the Hudson County Bar Association for many years, including service on its Family Law Committee, and he has served as a trustee. He was a Master at the Hudson American Inns of Court between 2011 and 2014. Other civic and fraternal ties include Phi Alpha Delta and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
His practice has drawn on decades of public and private work, spanning family court matters, municipal issues and civil litigation. He currently practices at Freeman Law Center, LLC, where his work includes family court proceedings, municipal matters and related civil work.
