About Brett F.
Brett F. Bodie graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2002 with a B.A. in psychology and earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2005. His academic path combined an interest in human behavior with legal training, a pairing that informed his early courtroom approach and client conversations.
After law school he began building a practice in California. In 2009 he worked as a lawyer at the Bankruptcy Law Center, where he handled bankruptcy matters and guided clients through chapter filings and debt resolution procedures. That experience exposed him to both consumer and business insolvency issues and to the practical steps lenders, trustees and debtors take during a case.
Bodie developed an emphasis on clear communication. He is comfortable explaining filing options, timelines and likely outcomes in plain terms. Colleagues describe him as straightforward in negotiations and deliberate in preparing filings. He favors a methodical approach to casework: organize the facts, identify procedural deadlines, and present documents that minimize surprises at hearings.
He later established his own practice operating as Bodie Law Office. The office handles matters arising under federal bankruptcy law and related state-level issues that intersect with insolvency. He consults with clients about statutes of limitation, creditor negotiations and court procedures. He also directs the administrative side of running a small law office, from calendaring deadlines to client intake and case management.
Outside the courtroom he maintains connections to the local legal community. He keeps up with changes in bankruptcy rules and case law through continuing legal education. That ongoing study informs how he assesses new filings and advises on restructuring options. He is licensed to practice in California and carries the practical perspective he gained early in his career into the cases he accepts today.
Bodie’s current practice is based at Bodie Law Office, where he concentrates on bankruptcy matters in California.
