About Brett D.

Brett D. White began his academic journey in applied mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a B.A. in 1988. He went on to Harvard Law School and received his J.D. in 1991. Those years shaped a methodical approach to problem solving that carries through his legal work today.

After law school, White entered the legal profession at a time of rapid change in technology and business. He built his career amid shifting client needs and evolving legal frameworks. Over time he developed an approach that emphasizes careful analysis and clear advice. Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic.

White spent years in private practice before assuming his current role as Of Counsel at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP. His move to that firm placed him in the middle of Silicon Valley’s legal scene. He maintains an office in Palo Alto and works with clients who require counsel on complex transactions and governance questions. He is admitted to practice in California.

His background in applied mathematics gives White a different perspective on legal problems. He often frames issues quantitatively and breaks large questions into manageable parts. That analytical bent is useful when cases involve detailed contracts, regulatory compliance, or cross-disciplinary disputes. He writes and speaks plainly so clients can understand practical choices and risks.

Peers and clients note his courtroom instincts as well as his drafting skills. He is comfortable switching between litigation strategy and transactional drafting. That range has proven useful for clients whose concerns shift between dispute resolution and dealmaking. He prefers to align legal solutions with business realities rather than rely on abstract theory.

Outside the office, White keeps ties to the Bay Area legal community. He stays engaged with developments that affect corporate clients, regulators, and entrepreneurs. He judges new legal issues by testing them against experience and common sense. The result is counsel that aims to be reliable and straightforward.

At Cooley Godward Kronish LLP in Palo Alto, he continues to serve clients in California, applying his mathematical training and legal experience to counseling on legal and business matters from the firm’s Silicon Valley office.
