About Brett

Brett Chapman is a litigation lawyer based in Oklahoma. He earned a J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2010 and holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Oklahoma.

His career began soon after law school when he took a position as an assistant district lawyer with the Oklahoma District Lawyers Council in 2010. That role put him inside a range of courtroom settings and gave him early exposure to trial work and courtroom procedure. He moved into private practice over time and by 2021 he was listed as a senior litigation lawyer for Tulsa DUI Guy.

Chapman’s admissions reflect a practice that spans state, federal and tribal forums. He is admitted to the Oklahoma bar and to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma. He also holds admission to the 10th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Chapman is admitted to practice in several tribal jurisdictions, including the Cherokee Nation, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the Choctaw Nation.

Beyond courtroom admissions, Chapman has taken on roles in civic and international organizations. Since 2021 he has served as Director of Outreach for the First Nations of America at the International Commission for Human Rights and Religious Freedom. He is also a commissioner on the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law. At the local tribal level he serves as vice chairman of the Tax Commission for the Ponca Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma.

Those appointments indicate an interest in issues that cross jurisdictional lines — tribal governance, environmental policy and human rights. His courtroom work and organizational roles intersect where legal questions involve federal, state and tribal law. Peers see him as someone who moves between those spheres and who takes on litigation in multiple forums.

Chapman’s practice record includes courtroom appearances, appellate filings and representation in tribal councils and commissions. He handles the procedural demands of federal court work, the particular rules of appellate practice, and the separate procedures used by tribal courts and commissions.

He currently practices as a senior litigation lawyer at Tulsa DUI Guy, handling DUI defense and related criminal matters.
