About Brad
Brad Cranmer built his early career in Louisiana courtrooms. He graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, earning his J.D. in 2015. The law school years positioned him for work at the local level and gave him a foundation in trial practice.
Fresh out of law school, Cranmer went to work as an assistant prosecutor at the East Baton Rouge Parish Lawyer's Office. He spent that time handling cases for the state, gaining experience in charging decisions, pretrial work and courtroom hearings. The entry into public service put him in front of judges and juries early on and shaped how he approaches evidence and advocacy.
A few years later Cranmer shifted to private practice. In 2018 he became a partner at Mansfield, Melancon, Cranmer & Dick. As partner he took on oversight of cases, client counseling and the administrative duties that come with running a small firm. He has split his time between courtroom work and managing the office’s caseload.
Cranmer’s memberships reflect a range of professional contacts. He joined the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2015 and has maintained that membership since. In 2018 he added membership in the Louisiana Association of Justice. Being active in these groups has kept him current on changes to procedure and legislation in Louisiana. It has also provided opportunities for continuing education and collegial exchange.
Colleagues describe him as practical in court and detail-oriented in preparation. He tends to favor clear lines of argument over elaborate theory. That approach is evident in how he prepares witnesses and organizes evidence, and it is a through-line from his time as a prosecutor to his current role in private practice.
Cranmer’s work is concentrated in Louisiana state courts. He handles matters that require trial experience and litigation strategy. He divides his practice between criminal defense and civil matters that emerge from litigation. He remains at Mansfield, Melancon, Cranmer & Dick, where his practice focuses on criminal defense and civil litigation.
