About Brad
Brad Biren began his professional life studying plants and built environments before turning to law. He earned a B.S. in Landscape Architecture and Plant Sciences from Cornell University in 2006. He later graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law with a J.D. in 2011 and returned to academic study to complete an LL.M. in taxation at Washington University School of Law in 2022. That combination of environmental design and tax study informs how he approaches complex legal problems.
After law school, Biren built a practice that spans tax and elder law. He has admitted to practice in Iowa and New Jersey and before the Southern and Northern Districts of Iowa. In 2021 he served as a tax and elder law lawyer and content curator at IQMOP, LLC, work that involved preparing materials and guidance tailored to practitioners and consumers. His professional path has included both client representation and work intended to support other lawyers and advisors.
Biren’s legal interests reflect his academic arc. The taxation LL.M. reinforced work on federal and state tax questions, while the elder law practice draws on an interest in matters that affect older adults and their families. He has experience drafting documents and explanatory content and handling matters that require careful attention to statutory detail and procedural rules in probate and tax administration. His practice style emphasizes clarity in paperwork and in client communications.
He is active in bar and legal community groups. Since 2012 he has held membership in the Iowa State Bar Association and he joined the Iowa State Bar Diversity & Inclusiveness Committee in 2018. In 2019 he became a member of ElderCounsel. Since 2021 he has served on the University of Iowa College of Law DEI Committee board. Those roles have involved committee work and contributing to discussions about access, inclusion, and practice standards.
Outside of law, Biren holds a LEED AP credential from the U.S. Green Building Council, a reflection of his earlier training in landscape architecture and sustainable design. That credential underscores an interdisciplinary background that intersects environmental thinking with legal analysis. He currently handles tax and elder law matters in his practice.
