About Bonnie

Bonnie Smerdon took an unconventional route to the practice of law. She earned her J.D. from Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in 2016 after entering the program in 2014. The classroom and the courthouse came to mean different things to her, but both shaped the approach she brings to clients now.

After law school, Smerdon built a practice that spans federal and administrative fora. She is admitted to practice in Florida and has credentials to appear before the Federal Circuit and the Executive Office for Immigration Review. Those admissions allow her to move cases through trial-level immigration proceedings and to press issues on appeal when necessary.

Her background suggests steady work on matters that require navigating procedural rules and administrative records. In hearings before immigration judges, practitioners must combine factual presentation with legal argument. Smerdon’s record in front of EOIR panels reflects that blend of advocacy and attention to administrative detail. She also handles filings in federal appellate settings where record preservation and precise briefing are essential.

Colleagues describe her approach as methodical. She prepares written submissions that aim to be concise and targeted. In oral arguments she tends to emphasize core legal questions and the specific facts that support them. That steadiness matters in appellate work, where the margin for error is small and the briefing schedule is tight.

Smerdon’s practice is based in Florida. At Luce Law PLLC she is part of a team that manages matters across state and federal venues. The office handles a range of immigration and court-related tasks, from initial petitions and removal defense to appeals in federal court. Her background before administrative bodies complements the firm’s broader litigation capabilities.

Outside the courtroom, she keeps up with changes in immigration law and federal procedure that affect clients and counsel alike. Those areas evolve rapidly, and practitioners must adapt their strategies to shifting precedent and administrative guidance. Smerdon’s work reflects that ongoing adjustment to new legal developments.

She currently practices at Luce Law PLLC, handling immigration proceedings before the EOIR and appeals in the Federal Circuit.
