About Billie Jo
Billie Jo Sowinski earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Dakota and went on to receive her J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2018. Her academic path combined classroom study and practical skills training. She also completed specialized certifications that shape how she approaches client work.
She began practicing family law soon after law school. In 2018 she worked at Jolein A. Harro, P.C., where she handled day-to-day client matters and courtroom filings. That early experience gave her exposure to contested hearings and negotiated settlements. She next joined Cordell & Cordell in 2020, working on a range of family law issues that included divorce and parenting time disputes.
By 2022 Sowinski had taken on roles at two different firms. She served as a family law lawyer at Divorce Done Right and later that year became an associate at Petrelli Previtera, LLC. Those positions have kept her immersed in family law practice in Colorado and expanded her familiarity with local court procedures and client counseling.
Her certifications reflect specific areas of interest. She holds a credential from the South Dakota Unified Judicial System for Lawyers Representing Children in Abuse and Neglect Cases. She also earned a Professional Research Certification from LexisNexis. Together, those qualifications indicate experience in child welfare matters and a facility for legal research and case preparation.
Sowinski is active in professional organizations. She has been a member of the American Bar Association and the Denver Bar Association since 2019. She also belongs to the Arapahoe County Bar Association. Participation in these groups has kept her connected to developments in family law and provided access to continuing legal education and peer networks.
Colleagues describe her as steady in the courtroom and attentive in client meetings. She has handled contested matters, negotiated settlements, and worked on cases involving child welfare concerns. Her work draws on courtroom experience, research skills, and the credentials she earned early in her career. She practices family law in Colorado and is an associate at Petrelli Previtera, LLC, where her current practice focuses on family law matters.
