Bill Wagner is a retired attorney who co-founded the prominent law firm Wagner McLaughlin & Whittemore, located in Tampa, Florida. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1960, starting a distinguished career that spanned over six decades. Wagner dedicated his practice to representing plaintiffs in personal injury and wrongful death cases, earning a reputation for his commitment to justice and advocacy for those in need. Born in Lake Worth, Florida, Wagner graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1951. His academic journey continued at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1955. During his time at the university, he was recognized as an outstanding leader among his peers. Following his undergraduate studies, Wagner graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Law in 1960, laying a solid foundation for his future legal career.

After completing his education, Wagner served as an intelligence officer in the United States Air Force. This experience enriched his understanding of discipline and strategy, which he later applied in his legal practice. He began his legal career in Miami at the firm Nichols, Gaither, Beckham, Colson, Spence, and Hicks, where he quickly rose to the position of partner. In 1967, he co-founded Wagner, Cunningham & Vaughan, which later evolved into Wagner, Vaughan & McLaughlin, and ultimately became Wagner McLaughlin & Whittemore. Under his leadership, the firm became known for its dedication to client advocacy and legal excellence. Throughout his career, Wagner held numerous leadership roles in various professional organizations. He served as president of the Florida Justice Association from 1972 to 1973, contributing significantly to the advancement of plaintiff rights in Florida.

In recognition of his contributions, he received the Perry Nichols Award in 1992, the highest honor bestowed by the association. Additionally, he was president of the American Association for Justice from 1988 to 1989, further solidifying his influence in the legal community. For over 30 years, Wagner was board-certified as a Civil Trial Lawyer by The Florida Bar and also held board certification as an Aviation Lawyer. His professional accolades included being a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. In his personal life, Wagner was an avid pilot. He held a commercial pilot’s license with multiple ratings, including multi-engine, instrument, seaplane, and helicopter. This focus on aviation complemented his legal career and showcased his adventurous spirit.

Married to his wife, Margie, for over 73 years, Wagner was a devoted family man. He had two sons, Bill Jr. and Eric, both of whom preceded him in death. Wagner's legacy is one of dedication to both his profession and his family, leaving an indelible mark on the legal field of Florida.
