About Benjamin L

Benjamin L Fruchey built a foundation in the natural sciences before he ever stepped into a courtroom. He earned a B.A. in Environmental Geology and Hydrology from Central Michigan University in 1999, followed by an M.A. in Geology from the University of Wyoming in 2002. He returned to Michigan for law school, receiving his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law in 2008.

Those academic credentials shape how he approaches legal problems. His background in geology and environmental science informs document review, regulatory strategy and case analysis. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He has also appeared pro hac vice in matters in California, Nevada, New York, Tennessee, Virginia and Wyoming.

Fruchey has cultivated professional ties across bar and technical communities. He holds membership in the State Bar of Michigan’s Environmental Law Section and belongs to the Michigan Association of Environmental Professionals. Locally, he is involved with the Fowlerville Business Association. He has also been active in municipal land-use governance; he served as chairperson of the Portland Zoning Board of Appeals and remains associated with that board.

His career spans practice settings that combine law and environmental practice. Colleagues describe him as methodical; he prefers careful record work and a steady courtroom presence. He handles regulatory matters, enforcement defense, and disputes that arise from land use, permitting and environmental regulations. In federal and state courts, he has managed filings, discovery and hearings tied to environmental statutes and administrative proceedings.

At the same time, Fruchey’s scientific training gives him a practical edge when dealing with technical experts and agency reports. He reads data and maps directly and often frames legal questions in terms that scientists and judges can both understand. That approach informs settlement talks as well as litigation strategy.

He is based at Foley, Baron, Metzger, & Juip PLLC, where he works with clients on cross-disciplinary issues that involve regulatory compliance, contested permits and environmental litigation. He maintains active memberships in professional and community organizations and continues to draw on his geology background in his legal work. He currently practices at Foley, Baron, Metzger, & Juip PLLC, where his practice concentrates on environmental law, permitting disputes and related litigation.
