About Benjamin
Benjamin Kearns built his legal foundation at Brigham Young University, where he studied from 2006 and earned his Juris Doctor in 2009. His time in law school coincided with a period of practical training and classroom work aimed at trial skills and client counseling. Those early years shaped a practice that would later center on family law and courtroom advocacy.
After passing the necessary bar requirements to practice in Utah, Kearns began a path that combined private practice with steady community involvement. He opened Kearns Family Law in 2015 and has remained its owner since. The firm handles a range of family law matters. Over the years he has guided clients through divorce proceedings, child custody disputes and related hearings. He has experience managing both negotiated settlements and contested cases, and he regularly appears before local family courts.
Kearns is an active member of the Utah Bar Association. He maintains his membership in that organization and participates in its continuing legal education offerings. Those programs keep him current on changes to state family law and on procedural developments affecting trial practice. He also holds other professional memberships. They have helped him build contacts across the bench and bar.
Colleagues describe Kearns as steady in the courtroom and practical at the negotiating table. He combines an attention to legal detail with an eye for practical outcomes. That combination matters in family law, where legal rulings intersect with personal lives. His approach tends to emphasize preparation, client communication and timely filings.
Since founding his firm, Kearns has overseen its growth and day-to-day operations. Running a small firm requires juggling casework, client intake and administrative duties. He has managed those responsibilities while continuing to represent clients in complex family matters. The practice has served clients across Utah, handling matters that vary in complexity and urgency.
Outside the office he has remained involved in legal education and professional activities. He attends workshops and seminars that address parenting plans, asset division and child support guidelines. His ongoing participation in professional programs informs the counsel he gives clients.
He currently represents clients in family law matters through Kearns Family Law, based in Utah.
