About Benjamin H

Benjamin H Deppman earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy from St. Lawrence University in 1987 and went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1991. Those years shaped his approach to argument and analysis. The study of philosophy left him comfortable with abstract reasoning; law school added the procedural tools to put those ideas into practice.

After law school he entered the practice of law. He is admitted to practice in Vermont and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. That combination of state and federal appellate credentials has informed the kinds of matters he accepts and the way he prepares a case. Admission to a federal appellate court is a practical credential; it means he can take appeals beyond the trial level when a client’s case requires it.

Deppman’s training in philosophy and law shows in his courtroom work and in briefs. He frames legal disputes in terms of structure and precedent. He tends to emphasize clear issue statements, tight factual narratives and attention to controlling authorities. Those habits matter whether the work involves a trial court filing that might later be appealed or a direct appellate brief filed in federal court.

He practices from Deppman Law PLC. The office serves clients in Vermont and handles matters that intersect with federal appellate jurisdiction. His practice has required coordination with other counsel, drafting of appellate briefs, and courtroom appearances where necessary. He is comfortable handling the procedural aspects of appeals as well as the written advocacy those appeals demand.

Colleagues describe him as deliberate in preparation and concise in oral argument. Clients have benefited from an approach that pairs close attention to legal detail with pragmatic planning about next steps. He remains active in cases that move from state court to higher review when appeals are appropriate.

Today he maintains his practice at Deppman Law PLC in Vermont and continues to represent clients in state matters and in appeals before the Second Circuit. His current practice focuses on appellate work and related litigation in Vermont and federal appellate proceedings.
