About Benjamin
Benjamin Gray built his path to law on a foundation in communication and courtroom work. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Truman State University, then went on to receive a J.D. from the University of Missouri–Columbia. Those studies framed a career that moved quickly from county courthouses to private practice.
He began his legal career in public service. In 2003 he served as an assistant prosecuting lawyer in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. That position involved day-to-day courtroom work, case preparation and interactions with law enforcement and victims. He returned to county prosecution in 2005 as an assistant prosecuting lawyer for Scott County, where he handled similar responsibilities and gained additional trial experience.
Gray shifted to private practice in 2006 when he joined Rice, Spaeth, Summers & Heisserer, LC as an associate. There he worked on matters typical of a mid-size firm, including litigation and client counseling. The role broadened his exposure to civil practice and the procedural demands of contested cases outside the criminal docket.
In 2009 he founded Benjamin J. Gray, LLC. Since then he has operated his own practice, representing clients in state and federal settings. He is admitted to practice in Missouri and before the Federal Circuit. That combination of admissions allows him to appear in Missouri courts and to handle cases that reach the federal appellate level.
Colleagues describe Gray as a lawyer who moves between roles easily — prosecutor, associate, and solo practitioner — and who draws on courtroom experience when advising clients. He handles matters from initial filings through hearings and trials, and he has managed both investigatory and adversarial phases of cases. He approaches each matter with an eye toward procedure and practical outcomes rather than rhetorical flourish. His practice covers matters in Missouri and cases before the Federal Circuit.
