About Benjamin D.
Benjamin D. Cornell built his legal career around immigration work and small-firm practice. He takes a practical approach to cases and to running a practice, preferring clear explanations over legalese. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and deliberate in client meetings.
He earned his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law in 2011. He began law school after undergraduate studies and completed the program on schedule. Law school records show a curriculum that included immigration-related clinics and coursework common to students pursuing practice in public interest and immigration services.
After law school Cornell entered practice in the Pacific Northwest and later expanded his professional reach to include Nevada. He opened his own firm in 2016, establishing the Law Office of Benjamin Cornell. Running a solo practice required him to handle both casework and management tasks: client intake, filings, court appearances and administrative duties. Establishing the firm shifted his daily work from supervised practice to independent client representation.
Cornell is admitted to practice in Washington and Nevada. His casework has involved the types of matters typically handled by small immigration practices: removal defense, family-based petitions, adjustment of status and petitions for relief. He has represented clients before courts and immigration agencies, and he has handled administrative filings on behalf of individuals and families navigating federal immigration processes.
Outside his casework he has been active in professional associations. He has been a member of the Washington Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2016. He also served on the board of directors for AID NW from 2017 to 2018. Those roles placed him in regular contact with other attorneys and nonprofit providers serving immigrant communities.
The Law Office of Benjamin Cornell remains his primary base. He manages the firm’s caseload and continues to represent clients in immigration matters across his admitted jurisdictions. His current practice focuses on immigration representation and related administrative work.
