About Barry M.

Barry M. Lewis earned his Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in 1975, completing formal study in criminal and trial law. He came of age professionally at a moment when courtroom practice still relied heavily on paper files, live testimony and oral argument. The legal training he received reflected that era, emphasizing courtroom procedure, evidence and trial advocacy.

Soon after graduation Lewis began a law practice that has been centered on criminal matters. He has spent the bulk of his career in trial work, representing clients in arraignments, pretrial hearings, bench trials and jury trials. He built a practice around courtroom litigation rather than transactional work, and he has continued to handle the day-to-day demands of case preparation and courtroom presentation.

Colleagues describe his courtroom approach as pragmatic. He prefers clarity in argument and thorough preparation. That means careful evidence gathering, focus on witness examination and attention to procedural detail. Those elements shape how he evaluates cases, negotiates pleas when appropriate and presents matters to judges and juries when necessary.

Over the decades the criminal justice landscape has changed. Sentencing rules, forensic science and procedural safeguards have all evolved. Lewis adapted his practice to those shifts while maintaining the core elements of trial advocacy. He has worked through changes in discovery rules and the expansion of constitutional protections for defendants. At the same time he has kept a steady emphasis on direct client contact and concrete trial preparation.

Outside the courtroom he has managed the practical business of a small practice, balancing caseloads and client expectations. He has handled the administrative tasks that keep cases moving, from filing motions to coordinating investigators and expert witnesses. Those responsibilities have kept him close to the procedural realities that shape case outcomes.

As of 2026 Lewis continues to practice criminal and trial law. His current practice concentrates on courtroom representation in criminal matters and the litigation tasks that support it.
