About Austin J
Austin J Luse built a path to law that leans on two different kinds of training: reporting and courtroom work. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Sports Studies at the University of Iowa in 2017 and earned his Juris Doctor from Drake University Law School in 2020. Those years shaped how he approaches legal problems. He writes clearly and pays attention to facts.
At Drake, Luse combined classroom study with practical work. He served as a student lawyer in the Drake Legal Clinic in 2019. There he handled client matters under supervision and took part in interviews, research and drafting. The clinic experience exposed him to client contact and real deadlines, and it informed the way he prepares cases and communicates next steps.
During the same year he worked as a legal intern for the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission. That placement put him inside a regulatory office at a time when gaming and licensing questions draw close scrutiny. He supported agency staff and gained experience in administrative procedures and the mechanics of regulatory review.
Luse’s undergraduate training in journalism continues to shape his practice. Reportorial instincts—questioning carefully, checking sources, and organizing complex information—feed into his legal writing and client conversations. He also holds an LGBTQ+ Safe-Zone Certification from LGBTQ+ Iowa, an indicator of training in creating respectful and informed interactions with LGBTQ+ clients.
He is a current member of both the Iowa State Bar and the Iowa Association for Justice. Those memberships keep him connected to developments in state law and to a network of peers who practice across a range of civil and administrative matters. Colleagues and court calendars often require timely research and clear motions. Luse’s background positions him to meet those demands.
Luse practices law out of Balduchi Law Office, P.C., where he represents clients in matters arising under Iowa law. He brings courtroom preparation, regulatory experience, and a background in journalism to his role at the firm. His current practice focuses on serving clients in Iowa and responding to their legal needs within the state.
