About Ashley V.
Ashley V. Tomlinson built her legal foundation at Tulane University School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 2010. She arrived there after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French at Hollins University in 2005. Her academic path combined liberal arts and law, and it set the stage for a career centered on family law and courtroom practice.
Tomlinson began practicing law soon after graduation. In 2011 she worked as an associate at Jenkins and Kamin LLP. The following year she joined Laura Dale & Associates, P.C. as an associate. Those early years placed her in a range of family law matters and gave her regular exposure to contested hearings, settlement negotiations and motion practice. She handled tasks typical for associates: drafting pleadings, preparing discovery, and supporting trial preparation.
Over time her work concentrated on family law issues. She earned Board Certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that reflects additional study and peer review in that area. She is admitted to practice in Texas, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Those admissions allow her to handle matters at the trial and appellate levels when cases reach federal forums.
Her professional engagement extends to local and state bar organizations. She holds memberships in the Houston Bar Association, including participation in its Family Law Section. She also belongs to the Houston Young Lawyers Association and to the State Bar of Texas, where she is active in the Family Law Section. Those memberships provide regular access to continuing legal education, committee work and peer networks.
Colleagues describe Tomlinson as methodical and practical in case handling. She approaches client problems in steps. She identifies immediate needs, maps a strategy and lets the facts drive the work. When litigation is required she prepares evidence and argument with an eye toward clarity. When settlement is possible she works toward terms that reflect clients’ priorities.
Her courtroom experience includes contested family law hearings and motions practice. She has handled custody, support and property division matters, and she has pursued both negotiated resolutions and contested outcomes. Her admissions to federal courts mean she is positioned to follow a case into different forums if jurisdictional issues arise.
She currently practices family law in Texas.
