About Ashley R.
Ashley R. McKnight built her legal foundation at Mississippi College School of Law, where she earned her J.D. after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Southern Mississippi. She returned to her law school in a teaching capacity soon after graduating, serving as a legal writing instructor assistant and helping shape early advocates as they learned to draft court filings and briefs.
McKnight’s early career blended classroom work and hands-on client service. She served as a guardian ad litem through the Mississippi Guardian Ad Litem program, representing the interests of children in custody and welfare matters. That role gave her regular exposure to family courts and child welfare systems across the state and fed into a practical understanding of how sensitive legal processes affect lives.
She has also been recognized outside the courtroom. The National Black Lawyers included her in its Top 40 Under 40 list, a peer-driven selection that highlights younger attorneys who have developed substantive practice experience. McKnight holds certifications as a notary public in Mississippi and as a guardian ad litem, credentials that support the variety of roles she has taken on in both litigation and client advocacy.
McKnight maintains memberships in a broad set of professional organizations. She is an active member of The Mississippi Bar, the National Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She serves as district director for the Magnolia Bar Association’s South Eastern District, a leadership role that involves coordinating activities and supporting colleagues across several counties. Her affiliations also include Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and The Gamma Beta Phi Society, and she maintains local ties through membership in the Harrison County Bar Association.
Her work reflects a mix of trial exposure, courtroom procedure and client counseling. The combination of legal writing instruction and guardian ad litem duties means she is comfortable drafting detailed motions and also conducting interviews and investigations in sensitive cases. Colleagues describe her approach as methodical and attentive to procedural requirements, which is important in family and juvenile matters where records and timing matter.
McKnight runs The McKnight Law Office, PLLC, where she continues to practice in Mississippi. She handles matters that draw on her background in family law and child welfare, while remaining involved in bar activities and local legal education. Her current practice concentrates on representing clients in family-related disputes and matters involving guardianship and child welfare.
