About Artie

Artie Pennington took an unconventional path to the law. He trained as an engineer and worked in chip design and technology business roles for years before earning a law degree. That technical background continues to inform the kind of matters he takes on and the way he approaches legal problems.

Pennington earned his J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2013. His academic record sits atop a longer career in engineering and technology. He began as a designer microarchitect at Motorola in 1989, where he worked on low-level hardware and system design. In 1996 he moved into the software and tools sector as a consultant and business development manager at Synopsys, Inc., a role that combined technical knowledge with commercial strategy.

In 2010 he became a managing member of Pennington IP Offices, LLC, a step that linked his technical experience with intellectual property practice. After completing law school he launched his own practice. In 2014 he founded and served as principal lawyer of Artie Pennington Law Offices, PLLC. Two years later he joined forces with others as a founding partner of Hunt Pennington Kumar PLLC in 2016. Those moves reflect a steady shift from corporate engineering roles into private legal practice.

Pennington’s background in engineering and his time at an IP-focused office suggest an interest in intellectual property matters, particularly where technology and law intersect. His career in semiconductor design and in software tools gives him a practical grasp of technical issues that often arise in patent and IP disputes. He has experience on both the technical and business sides of product development, which can shape how he evaluates infringement and portfolio strategy.

Colleagues and clients describe him as practical and detail-oriented. He tends to bring precise technical reasoning to legal questions rather than broad theory. That approach suits cases where technical clarity matters and where legal arguments depend on engineering facts.

Today he practices through Artie Pennington Law Offices, PLLC and has also been involved with Hunt Pennington Kumar PLLC. He handles matters that draw on his engineering background and legal training and continues to work on intellectual property and technology-related legal issues as part of his current practice focus.
