About Ariadne S.

Ariadne S. Montare built a professional foundation at two well-regarded universities before entering the bar. She earned a B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1987, where her studies combined drama, foreign affairs and English. She later received her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1994 and undertook formal work in foreign and comparative law in 1991.

Her education gave her a mix of humanities and international legal study. That background shaped the kinds of matters she pursued early in her career. She trained in analytical writing and close reading, skills that would prove useful in appellate work and cross-jurisdictional disputes.

Montare is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York and Texas, and she is admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She holds membership in the State Bar of New York. Those admissions allow her to move between state and federal forums and to take on matters that touch more than one jurisdiction.

Across her career she has handled litigation that required detailed record review and careful briefing. She has experience drafting appellate briefs and oral argument memoranda, and she has worked on filings in federal courts as well as state trial courts. Her work often involves reconciling differing state rules or applying comparative legal principles when cases involve cross-border elements.

Colleagues describe her approach as methodical. She breaks problems into discrete legal questions and builds positions that can be presented clearly to judges or opposing counsel. Her background in English and drama informs how she frames arguments and organizes presentations. Those communication skills are an asset when preparing witnesses, drafting appellate briefs or arguing complex points of law.

Outside the courtroom she has participated in bar association activities and continues to stay current on developments in appellate procedure and comparative law. She has maintained an active membership in the State Bar of New York and remains engaged with professional peers across the states where she is licensed.

In private practice she concentrates on appellate litigation and multi-jurisdictional disputes, including matters that raise comparative-law issues. Her current practice focuses on handling appeals and cross-border legal questions for clients in state and federal courts.
