About April L.

April L. Jones earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Utah, receiving a B.A. in 2002. She later attended the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where she completed her legal training. Her academic path combined a foundation in liberal arts with professional legal studies, preparing her for work that sits at the intersection of law and housing policy.

After law school, Jones moved into public interest and tenant advocacy. Since 2015 she has served as the managing lawyer at the Colorado Eviction Defense Center. In that role she has overseen legal services delivered to renters facing eviction across the state. Her work there involves supervising intake, guiding litigation strategy in housing courts, and training newer attorneys and volunteers who assist tenants with eviction matters.

Her involvement in tenant advocacy extends beyond casework. Jones has been on the board of the Colorado Tenants Association since 2015. In that capacity she participates in policy discussions, community outreach, and educational programs aimed at informing tenants about their rights under Colorado law. Her board role ties together courtroom work and broader efforts to affect housing stability at the community level.

Jones also maintains an office through Colorado Affordable Legal Services, LLC. That practice provides another avenue for low- and moderate-income clients to access counsel. Between the two organizations she balances direct representation, systemic advocacy, and the administrative duties required to keep nonprofit legal services functioning.

Colleagues describe Jones as pragmatic and methodical. She approaches eviction matters with attention to procedural detail and an eye toward realistic remedies. Cases often turn on tight deadlines and technical rules. Her practice emphasizes timely filings, clear communication with clients, and careful negotiation when settlement is an option. She has also worked to expand pro se resources and to refine forms and guides that help tenants understand their rights before they enter a courtroom.

Jones is authorized to practice in Colorado and has built her career around housing and eviction defense within the state. She balances casework and leadership responsibilities, splitting time between direct client representation, supervising other attorneys, and participating in tenant-focused policy efforts. She currently concentrates on eviction defense and affordable housing legal services in Colorado.
