About Anne Margaret
Anne Margaret Voigts is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in California. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 2002. Her license is currently in active status. Ms. Voigts is a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, a law firm located in Palo Alto, California. She has been practicing law for over two decades, serving clients throughout the state and beyond.
Ms. Voigts earned her Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School in 1999. During her time at Columbia, she served as the Executive Articles Editor of the Columbia Law Review. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at Yale University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992. After law school, she clerked for Judge Stephen Reinhardt on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Justice John Paul Stevens on the U.S. Supreme Court. She also externed for then-Judge Sonia Sotomayor on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Ms. Voigts specializes in appellate litigation, representing clients in both federal and state appellate courts. Her practice encompasses a wide range of issues, including antitrust, copyright, and the False Claims Act. She has argued over 70 cases in appellate courts and has experience in all facets of appellate practice, including serving as common counsel at complex sites. She also frequently advises trial teams on legal issues and motion practice, before, during, and after trial, and counsels clients on rapidly changing, complex legal issues. She is a Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and has particular experience related to appeals and critical motions in class actions and related to cybersecurity and privacy issues.
Throughout her career, Ms. Voigts has handled cases before the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, and federal and state appellate and trial courts. She has been recognized by Chambers USA in Litigation: Appellate (California) from 2020 to 2025. She has also been recognized as a "Northern California Super Lawyer in Litigation" and named a Top Woman of California by the Daily Journal in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, she received the Human Trafficking Legal Center’s Advocate of the Year award for her extraordinary amicus brief work in civil trafficking cases over many years.
Ms. Voigts is an active member of several professional organizations. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and serves on the Advisory Board to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She has previously served as a member of the California Lawyer’s Association’s Committee on Appellate Courts and as a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Amicus Briefs. She has taught appellate advocacy at USC Gould School of Law and the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center. She regularly speaks on developments in Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit case law, privacy law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, and effective legal writing, and has participated on panels at Stanford’s Rock Center Directors’ College, the Ingram Inn of Court, and the California Lawyers Association, among others.
