About Anita Joy
Anita Joy Margolis is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 1985. Her license is currently in active status. Ms. Margolis is the founder and principal attorney at The Law Offices of Anita J. Margolis, a law firm located at 2366 Front Street, San Diego, California. She has been practicing law for over 40 years, serving clients throughout the San Diego area.
Ms. Margolis earned her Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in 1985. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981. During her time at California Western, she received the American Jurisprudence Award in Trial Evidence and Real Property.
Ms. Margolis concentrates her practice in the areas of family law, civil litigation, and mediation. She represents individuals and families in matters involving divorce, child custody and support, domestic partnership disputes, and adoption. Her practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. She also serves as a mediator and arbitrator, providing alternative dispute resolution services to clients seeking amicable solutions.
Throughout her career, Ms. Margolis has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Diego, the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. In addition to her private practice, she has served as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Diego Superior Court since 2001 and was an Arbitrator for the court from 2001 to 2008.
Ms. Margolis is an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association, where she served on the Board of Directors from 1999 to 2002 and as Secretary from 2000 to 2001. She is also a member of the Lawyers’ Club of San Diego, serving on its Board of Directors from 1989 to 1993 and as Secretary from 1991 to 1992. Additionally, she has been involved with the Tom Homann Law Association, serving on its Board of Directors from 2003 to 2005 and as Co-President from 2010 to 2012. Ms. Margolis is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing her to serve the diverse communities of San Diego effectively.
