About Andrew
Andrew Weisberg started his legal path in the Midwest. He earned a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993 and a J.D. from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1996. Those degrees set the stage for a career split between prosecution and defense. He is licensed to practice in Illinois.
He began public service soon after law school. In 1996 he worked as a prosecutor at the Will County State's Lawyer's Offices. That early courtroom work gave him everyday exposure to case preparation, witness work and trial procedures. In 2001 he moved to the Cook County State's Lawyer's Office where he continued prosecutorial duties on a larger and busier urban docket.
In 2004 he shifted to private practice and opened the Law Offices of Andrew M. Weisberg. The change brought a different daily rhythm. He stopped presenting the state's case and started defending people accused of crimes. He has handled matters across Illinois courts and taken cases that required intensive motion practice and trial readiness.
Weisberg's credentials include membership in the Capital Litigation Trial Bar since 2001 and the Federal Trial Bar since 2006. He also completed a Certificate of Completion from the State Appellate Defender program titled Defending IL Death Penalty Cases. Those affiliations reflect work on complex and serious criminal matters, including cases that involve capital litigation procedures and federal court practice when applicable.
His background on both sides of the aisle informs how he prepares cases. Former prosecutors sometimes see patterns that help them anticipate the government's moves. As a defense lawyer, he has used that perspective in plea negotiations and at trial. The profile of work includes felony litigation, pretrial motions, evidentiary hearings and jury trials in Illinois state courts.
Colleagues and clients describe him as a lawyer who prefers to let facts and legal analysis lead. He operates a private practice under the name Law Offices of Andrew M. Weisberg. He continues to represent clients in criminal cases across Illinois, including matters involving capital issues and federal trial work where his memberships permit.
