About Andrew
Andrew Skinner began his academic path at the College of William and Mary, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1988. He later returned to Texas for law school, receiving his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996. Those two degrees set the stage for a career that has moved between large national firms and a smaller, community-rooted practice.
His early legal work included a stint at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP beginning in 2000. There he practiced within the structures of a major international firm, gaining experience in the demands of complex litigation and large-client representation. In 2003 he left that environment and joined Nichols & Skinner, LC, a smaller office where he had more direct client contact and more responsibility for case management.
In 2008 he founded Skinner Law Office. The move brought him back to a more localized practice model. He established a Martinsburg branch as well. Over the years the office has served clients across multiple states and maintained ties to the community through civic and professional organizations.
Skinner is licensed to practice in Illinois, West Virginia and Virginia. He maintains membership in the American Association of Justice and serves on the Board of Governors for the West Virginia Association of Justice. Those roles put him in regular contact with trial lawyers and peers who handle contested litigation in state and federal courts. He also participates in local civic life. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and is the founder and annual host of Leadership Jefferson, an initiative aimed at community leadership and engagement.
Colleagues and community members describe his approach as hands-on. He has moved between large-firm practice and small-office ownership, and that experience shapes how he runs his firm. That background informs staffing, client intake and the allocation of resources for litigation and client counseling.
He continues to practice from Skinner Law Office and its Martinsburg branch. He handles matters across the three jurisdictions where he is licensed and maintains active involvement in the professional associations and community organizations that have been part of his career since the early 2000s.
