About Andrew

Andrew Rhoden combines a background in sports and education with a formal legal education. He earned his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in 2017, and spent time at Georgetown University Law Center in 2015. Before law school he completed an M.S. in Sport Management at West Virginia University in 2007 and a B.S. in Sports Management at Hampton University in 2006.

Rhoden moved into legal work soon after finishing law school. He served as an associate at Vandeventer Black in 2017 and worked as a legal intern with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office the same year. Earlier training included a role as a certified student lawyer through the D.C. Bar at Rising for Justice in 2016, a federal judicial internship in 2016 with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and summer positions at private practices and clerks’ offices.

His career has woven together legal practice and a long history in athletics. Before law, he held coaching and administrative roles at the collegiate and high school levels. He was director of football operations and recruiting coordinator at Hampton University, worked on defensive quality control at West Virginia University, and coached at Florida International University and Florida State University in different seasons. He also spent time as athletic director for a youth athletic league and as an account executive intern with the Florida Panthers early in his career.

In the practice of law, Rhoden has taken on roles that reflect both general litigation work and specialized interests. He worked as a lawyer at Munck Wilson Madala LLP in 2020 and acted as a higher education and sports law consultant at Horack, Talley, Pharr & Lowndes, P.A. in 2018. Since 2022 he has been the managing lawyer at Masterly Legal Solutions, where he oversees firm matters and client relationships.

Rhoden holds certifications that intersect with education and sport. He is a Level Two Certified Civil Rights Investigator through the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA). He also holds a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the Workplace certification from the University of South Florida, a Certified Personal Trainer credential from the International Sports Sciences Association, and a Master Coach Certification from the American Football Coaches Association.

He maintains memberships in professional groups related to law, education, and sports. Listed affiliations include the American Bar Association, the Education Law Association, the Sports Law Association, and the American Football Coaches Association.

Rhoden is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, North Carolina, and Texas. His background in athletics and education informs his legal perspective and the matters he handles at Masterly Legal Solutions.
