Andrew Kata studied political science at Western Michigan University before moving on to earn his law degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 2010. He completed a traditional route through undergraduate public affairs into law school. The coursework and the campus culture in East Lansing shaped his early legal outlook.
His first recorded position came in 2012 when he joined Mike Morse Injury Law Office as a lawyer. That stint placed him in a busy office environment handling a steady caseload. He worked on client files, learned case management systems, and gained courtroom exposure while navigating the rhythms of a high-volume practice.
A decade after law school, Kata struck out on his own. In 2022 he established Kata Law PLLC and took on the dual role of owner and lawyer. Starting a firm meant moving from an employee lawyer role into one that required running operations, handling administrative duties and building a client base. He has spoken about the practical demands of small-firm life and how they differ from working inside a larger practice.
Throughout his career he has practiced under the rules of the Michigan bar. Colleagues note he is steady with deadlines and practical in negotiations. He approaches casework in a straightforward way. He tends to split his time between client counseling, litigation tasks and the paperwork that powers small-firm practice.
Outside the office he keeps the professional routine simple. He maintains bar membership and stays engaged with continuing legal education to meet Michigan’s requirements. He has chosen to keep public commentary about specific cases limited, preferring to let client outcomes speak for themselves.
Kata’s path from a political science undergraduate to a law firm owner is pragmatic rather than theatrical. The work has required both legal judgment and a willingness to manage a business. He balances client-facing work with the demands of running Kata Law PLLC.
He now practices at Kata Law PLLC, where he focuses his practice on client representation through the firm.
