About Andrew J.
Andrew J. Long traces his legal foundation to the University of Illinois—Chicago John Marshall Law School, where he earned his J.D. in 1993. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois—Chicago in 1990, taking a B.A. in psychology with a minor in philosophy. Those early academic choices shaped the way he approaches problems: methodical, patient and attentive to both evidence and human context.
After law school he became active in Illinois courts and in the federal district that covers northern Illinois. He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. His first recorded role after graduation appears on his resume in 1994, when he served as a lawyer at Sandman Levy & Petrich. That early period gave him day-to-day courtroom exposure and experience handling client work under tight deadlines.
Long’s career moved forward in the mid-2000s when he joined Gruzmark Law, Ltd. in 2006. The change marked a shift to a different firm environment and new responsibilities. He continued to represent clients in state and federal matters while adapting to the demands of larger caseloads and the procedural complexities of federal practice.
Colleagues describe him as steady under pressure. He has managed litigation tasks, prepared motions, and handled hearings in both state and federal settings. He has been expected to draft pleadings, conduct discovery, and advise clients on procedural options. That practical litigation work complements his academic background in psychology, a tool he uses to assess witnesses and communicate with clients.
Today Long practices from an office associated with the Law Office of Alexander Gruzmark, LTD. He maintains courtroom readiness in the Northern District of Illinois as well as continuing practice in Illinois state courts. His work remains grounded in litigation and courtroom practice, where he handles pleadings, hearings and client counseling in matters that proceed in both state and federal forums.
He currently maintains an active practice focused on litigation and related court work in Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois.
