About Andrew J.
Andrew J. Kim earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1995. He stayed in the academic track and completed his legal education at Harvard Law School, receiving his J.D. in 1998. Those formative years placed him at two institutions with different rhythms. The sciences and social sciences of an undergraduate campus gave way to the case-driven intensity of a top law school.
After law school Kim entered private practice. He is a partner at Fenwick & West LLP. He holds membership in the State Bar of California and maintains membership in the State Bar of Illinois. Those dual memberships reflect a professional reach that spans more than one jurisdiction even as his primary practice is in California.
At the firm he handles corporate work and client counseling typical of a large commercial practice. That work often involves advising companies on transactions, governance questions and commercial arrangements. Cases can move quickly. So do the demands on a partner who must balance client needs, deal timelines and team oversight. Colleagues describe his role as that of a day-to-day advisor for business clients navigating routine and complex matters alike.
Kim’s academic background in psychology and law is a practical combination. It frames how he assesses factual narratives and client interactions. Harvard’s legal training, paired with an earlier exposure to behavioral science, informs his approach to problem solving and negotiation. He applies that mix to the practical business challenges his clients bring.
In firm leadership and client engagement he focuses on sustaining long-term relationships and on the operational aspects of legal representation. He spends time mentoring junior lawyers and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams inside the firm to meet client objectives. He appears regularly before corporate boards, counsel teams and negotiating counterparts as part of his practice.
He is based at Fenwick & West LLP and is active in California legal circles while retaining ties to Illinois through bar membership. His current practice centers on serving corporate clients at Fenwick & West LLP.
