About Andrew G.
Andrew G. Schultz built a career that marries technical training and legal practice. He earned a B.A. from Swarthmore College in 1979, an M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University in 1981 and a J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1984. Those academic stops set a steady foundation for a legal path that moved quickly from clerkships to firm leadership.
Fresh out of law school, Schultz served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alvin B. Rubin on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in 1984. He then spent a year clerking at the highest level of the federal judiciary, working for Associate Justice Byron R. White at the Supreme Court of the United States in 1985. Those early experiences placed him at the center of appellate procedure and federal judicial practice.
After his clerkships, Schultz joined private practice and rose through the ranks at Rodey, Dickason, Sloan, Akin, & Robb, P.A. He holds a director position at the firm. In that role he has been involved in overseeing litigation strategy and advising clients on matters that reach state and federal tribunals. His career has been rooted in New Mexico, where he is admitted to practice and participates in the local bar community.
Schultz maintains memberships in several professional organizations. He is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and an elected member of the American Law Institute. He also belongs to the American Bar Association and the State Bar of New Mexico. Those affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with developments in law and professional standards.
The arc of Schultz’s work reflects a strong appellate orientation. His clerkships in the Fifth Circuit and at the Supreme Court informed how he approaches legal argument and brief writing. In private practice he has applied that experience to federal court matters and state appellate work. Colleagues often note the continuity between his early federal experience and the matters he handles at the firm.
Schultz’s approach is procedural and practical. He concentrates on preparing appellate filings, advising on appealability and preserving issues for higher courts. He also provides counsel on federal practice questions that arise in complex civil cases. He balances courtroom work with managing case teams and client relationships.
He is based at Rodey, Dickason, Sloan, Akin, & Robb, P.A., and his current practice focuses on appellate and civil litigation matters in New Mexico and federal courts.
