About Andrew

Andrew Becke earned his law degree at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, receiving his J.D. in 2007. He arrived at law school after undergraduate studies and completed his legal training during a period of sustained attention to appellate process in Arizona. The classroom shaped his early interest in how precedent and procedure interact at the state and federal levels.

After graduating, Becke served as a law clerk to Vice Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch at the Arizona Supreme Court in 2007. That year on the court placed him at the center of the state's appellate work. He observed the deliberations of justices and assisted in the review of briefs and opinions during a demanding term on the bench.

Becke is licensed to practice in Arizona and is admitted to appear before the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Those admissions allow him to handle matters that move between trial courts and appellate panels. He has experience across filings at both state and federal levels and understands the procedural differences each forum requires.

His career after the clerkship moved into private practice. He joined Murphy, Schmitt, Hathaway & Wilson, where he has worked on cases that reach state trial courts and federal dockets. His background in appellate work informs how he frames legal arguments at the trial stage. He approaches litigation with attention to record-building and to preserving issues for any potential appeal.

Colleagues describe him as attentive to procedural detail and methodical in preparing filings. He favors clear, direct memoranda and briefs. That practical style extends to client counseling, where he explains procedural choices and possible court paths in straightforward terms.

Outside of courtroom filings, Becke’s familiarity with the Ninth Circuit and the District of Arizona means he can map litigation strategies across jurisdictions. He balances the demands of trial practice and appellate posture, advising clients on when to pursue a full trial record and when to focus on discrete appealable questions. He currently practices at Murphy, Schmitt, Hathaway & Wilson, representing clients in state and federal courts.
