About Andrea

A 1999 graduate of the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona, Andrea Montavon-McKillip built her legal foundation at a time when immigration law was rapidly changing. She earned her J.D. in 1999 and has practiced in the field for more than two decades, tracking shifts in policy and procedure as they occurred. The early legal training provided a base she would return to throughout a career centered on immigration matters.

Montavon-McKillip is admitted to practice in both Florida and Illinois. She holds Board Certification in Immigration & Nationality Law from The Florida Bar, a credential that signals a measured level of peer recognition and specialized expertise. She has been an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2007 and later took on chapter-level responsibilities, serving as Secretary of the AILA San Diego chapter beginning in 2022.

Her association activity extends beyond AILA. Since 2022 she has maintained a supporting membership in the Tom Homann LGBTQ+ Law Association. Those affiliations reflect an ongoing engagement with professional networks and issue-specific groups that intersect with immigration work. The memberships also keep her connected to evolving practice standards and the community of practitioners who handle cross-border family, employment, and humanitarian cases.

In practice, Montavon-McKillip handles a range of immigration matters. She prepares petitions and applications, represents clients before immigration authorities, and advises on eligibility for benefits such as naturalization and permanent residency. She also works on matters that often arise in removal proceedings and on waivers where applicable. Her Board Certification pertains specifically to immigration and nationality law, and that credential shapes how she approaches case preparation and court filings.

Montavon-McKillip operates Montavon McKillip Law, P.A., where she carries out day-to-day client work and case management. Her office work combines client interviews, strategy development, and litigation when cases require it. She continues to be active in AILA and related associations while running her practice. She currently represents individuals and families in immigration-related matters in Florida and Illinois, focusing her practice on immigration and nationality law.
