About Andrea F.
Andrea F. Chavarria built a foundation in journalism and international affairs before turning to law. She earned a B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Texas in 2001, followed by an M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy from Schiller International University in 2005. She completed her J.D. at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2006, where she studied administrative law. Later study at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, culminated in a program on the International Protection of Refugees and Displaced Persons in 2014.
Her early legal work tied those academic threads together. In 2005 she worked as a legal assistant at Reina, Bates & Kowalski Immigration Law Group. By 2009 she was a law clerk, first at Ponce Law Office and then back at Reina, Bates & Kowalski. Those positions placed her in the day-to-day practice of immigration law and administrative proceedings. She has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2009 and has maintained memberships in the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association in recent years. She also spent time with the Austin Bar Association from 2009 to 2010.
Chavarria is licensed to practice in Texas and is admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Her training in refugee protection complements experience gained at immigration-focused practices. The mix of academic work on refugees and practical roles in immigration law informs how she approaches casework, from client intake to representation in administrative hearings.
She later established The Chavarria Law Office. There she has continued to work on immigration and administrative matters. Her practice has included asylum and refugee protection questions, administrative appeals, and other immigration applications. Memberships in local and national bar groups reflect a continuing involvement in the professional community and in immigration law developments.
Colleagues and clients describe a career that links international study to courtroom and administrative advocacy. She has combined classroom study of international protection with years of hands-on practice at immigration law firms and in private practice. Andrea F. Chavarria currently operates The Chavarria Law Office and represents clients in immigration and administrative matters, including matters arising in the Fifth Circuit.
