About Amy
Amy Shen is an associate attorney at Boxer+Gerson, LLP, where she specializes in workers' compensation law. She joined the firm in March 2018, bringing with her nearly 15 years of experience on the defense side of workers' compensation. Born in Massachusetts, Amy moved to California during her formative years, which helped shape her understanding of the state's legal field. Her academic journey began at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies in 1999. This foundational education prepared her for the rigors of law school. In 2003, Amy graduated with her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law.
Following her graduation, she embarked on her legal career with Liberty Mutual Insurance in Massachusetts, where she gained invaluable insights into the insurance industry. After a few years, she transferred to Liberty Mutual's California office, marking her return to the Bay Area. This transition proved pivotal, as it set the stage for her subsequent career moves — In 2007, she joined Mullen & Filippi, a prominent workers' compensation defense firm located in Oakland. There, she developed her skills and eventually became a partner, further solidifying her expertise in the field. At Boxer+Gerson, Amy represents clients in workers' compensation cases, focusing on those facing challenging circumstances due to job-related injuries. Her experience on the defense side equips her with a unique perspective.
This lets the attorney understand the details of both sides of the legal equation. Fluent in Mandarin, she is skilled at serving clients from diverse backgrounds, aiming to be a beacon of hope for those navigating the often daunting workers' compensation process. Her commitment to her clients is evident in her diligent approach to each case. Amy is a member of the State Bar of California, having been admitted in 2003. She is also an active member of the Alameda County Bar Association and the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association, where she engages with fellow professionals and stays updated on industry developments. These affiliations not only enhance her legal acumen but also reflect her dedication to the legal community in California.
Outside of her professional life, Amy is married to a scientist specializing in HIV research. Together, they have a daughter born in June 2017. The family enjoys a variety of activities, including scuba diving and exploring local attractions in the Bay Area. Amy's personal interests and family life contribute to her well-rounded perspective, enriching her ability to connect with clients on a personal level.
