About Amy L
Amy L Martz moved from classrooms to courtrooms over the course of a three-decade career. She has a background in public education that stretches back to the 1990s and a law degree earned in the mid-2010s. Those two strands run through her work and inform how she approaches cases and clients.
Her academic path began at Brigham Young University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1994 and a Master of Education in School Administration in 2001. She later returned to the University of Utah to pursue public affairs. She holds a Master of Public Administration (2015) from the University of Utah and a Juris Doctor (2015) from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the same university.
Martz spent the early years of her professional life in public education. Beginning in 1994, she served as a teacher and rose to the role of principal. In 2008 she earned National Board Certification for Teachers, a credential she maintains. She was an active member of the Utah Education Association for much of that period.
Her legal career began after law school. She opened MARTZ LAW in 2017 and has served as owner and lawyer since then. She is admitted to practice in Utah and is authorized to appear before the Tenth Circuit. Her memberships include the Federal District Court of Utah, where she holds court membership that began in 2022.
Colleagues and clients describe her as practical and direct. Her classroom experience shaped her approach to client communication: clear explanations, measured expectations, and a preference for thorough preparation. She brings administrative experience to legal matters that involve public institutions and regulatory processes, drawing on years of on-the-ground experience in school settings.
Outside the office, Martz’s professional record shows a sustained interest in education policy and standards. That background is reflected in her continuing National Board Certification and in the overlap of skills she applies to legal practice: management, dispute resolution, and procedural work.
She runs her practice from MARTZ LAW and handles matters in Utah and before the Tenth Circuit.
