About Amber Reiner

Amber Reiner Skovdal earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, studying political science, economics and legal studies. She continued her legal education at Duquesne University School of Law, where she received her J.D. in 2013. Those academic years combined liberal arts and practical legal training, and helped shape the way she approaches legal questions today.

After law school Skovdal moved into practice. She built experience handling a range of client matters and later joined Houston Harbaugh. That firm affiliation frames much of her recent work and daily practice. Colleagues describe her as someone who relies on careful preparation and clear analysis when presenting issues to clients and opposing counsel.

Skovdal’s undergraduate mix of political science and economics informs how she thinks about cases. She tends to weigh legal arguments against broader policy and financial contexts. That background does not substitute for legal study, but it does provide a lens through which she evaluates options. Her Duquesne training supplied the doctrinal foundation and courtroom skills that lawyers use every day.

In meetings and written work she favors direct explanations. Long sentences rarely serve a client; clear points do. That approach helps when she must translate technical legal concepts into practical advice. People who work with her say she is deliberate about research and methodical in preparing filings and memos. She applies basic analytical tools—issue-spotting, statutory reading, and factual synthesis—rather than relying on rhetoric.

Outside the file work, Skovdal’s resume reflects an interest in the intersections of law, government and business. Those interests surfaced in her undergraduate course selection and continued through law school. They also shape the kinds of questions she raises for clients and the types of practical solutions she pursues.

Today she practices at Houston Harbaugh, where her work draws on her combined legal training and academic background. Her current practice at Houston Harbaugh draws on that legal training and academic foundation.
