About Amanda

Amanda Engen is an attorney based in North Dakota who has moved between public service and private practice over the past two decades. She combines courtroom experience from tribal and state systems with military legal service. Her background includes work on child support and parenting-time matters as well as service as a Judge Advocate General.

She earned her J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2009. Before that she completed a B.A. at the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities in 2004, concentrating on psychology and political science. Those academic choices shaped an early interest in family and administrative law and informed work she later did for state agencies.

Her first recorded role in the public sector came in Minnesota, where she served as a parenting-time investigator for the state in 2004. That fieldwork put her inside family court processes and exposed her to the investigative side of custody and visitation disputes. She later joined the State of North Dakota as a Special Assistant Attorney General in 2011, working on child support matters. The position involved courtroom appearances and administrative proceedings tied to support enforcement and modification.

In 2012 she took a commission as a Judge Advocate General with the North Dakota National Guard. That role added military legal practice to her résumé. She then established a private practice and in 2014 became president of Engen Law Office, P.C., a firm she leads. At the firm she has handled matters that stem from her prior public roles, representing clients in family-related proceedings and in tribal court settings. She is authorized to practice in North Dakota and in Spirit Lake Tribal Court, and she has experience moving between those forums depending on a client's needs.

Colleagues and opposing counsel describe her as methodical in court and straightforward in preparation. She has balanced work that includes state agency representation, military legal service, and private-client advocacy. Her practice today is conducted through Engen Law Office, P.C., where she handles family law, child support matters, and representation in tribal court proceedings.
