About Allyson E.

Allyson E. Hilliard began her legal career inside the highest court in West Virginia. In 2003 she served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Charles E. King, Jr. on the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. The work placed her at the center of appellate briefing and opinion drafting. It offered early exposure to complex legal questions and the mechanics of appellate decision-making.

After the clerkship she entered private practice. By 2005 she was an associate at Swartz Law Offices, PLLC. There she handled client matters, prepared filings and appeared in court on behalf of clients. The role required a combination of research, negotiation and courtroom presence. It also gave her day-to-day experience in managing case loads and client expectations.

In 2014 she took on a leadership role as managing lawyer at Hilliard & Swartz, LLP. The position expanded her responsibilities beyond individual files. She oversees firm operations, supervises other lawyers and coordinates litigation strategy. The job calls for both legal judgment and administrative oversight. It has also involved mentoring junior attorneys and refining office procedures.

Her career path reflects steady movement from appellate work to firm leadership. That progression has kept her in both the courtroom and the conference room. She has continued to work on written advocacy and oral argument while handling the practical demands of running a law office.

Hilliard maintains professional memberships and stays engaged with the legal community. She has worked across different stages of litigation and in appellate settings. Those roles have shaped how she approaches a case: methodical, attentive to precedent and mindful of the client’s position.

She currently practices at Hilliard & Swartz, LLP, where her work concentrates on litigation and appellate matters and on guiding firm operations and client services.
