About Alice

Alice Hansen took an unconventional route to law. She studied musicology and ethnomusicology at the University of Colorado Boulder, earning a B.A. in 2010. Years later she returned to school and completed a J.D. at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2020, where her coursework emphasized public interest law.

Her time in law school began in 2017 and included the ordinary mix of classroom work and practical training that shapes early lawyers. She was listed as a law student at the University of Denver in 2017 and completed the degree program that led to her 2020 graduation. The public interest orientation of her studies set the stage for the work that followed.

After law school she served as a law clerk in 2021 at the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. That court handles appeals tied to veterans’ benefits and related administrative determinations. Her clerkship placed her in the middle of appellate briefing and decision-making on those matters.

In 2022 she moved into a leadership role as Associate Director at the Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project. In that position she assumed responsibility for helping to run the organization’s legal programs and for guiding casework on behalf of veterans. The title reflects both supervisory duties and a continuing engagement with case-level advocacy.

Hansen’s education and experience point to a practice rooted in veterans law and public interest litigation. The sequence of her training, clerkship, and nonprofit leadership gives her familiarity with appeals, administrative proceedings, and the practical challenges veterans face in seeking benefits. Her undergraduate background in musicology is an uncommon precursor to law; it also signals an aptitude for careful analysis and attention to detail.

Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer whose career has moved steadily from student to clerk to program leader. She has operated inside the appellate system and then inside an advocacy organization, which has shaped how she approaches legal problems. Her work blends legal research and writing, case management, and client outreach.

She currently practices at the Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project, where her practice concentrates on legal advocacy for veterans, including appeals and administrative claims.
