About Ali

Ali Nininger-Finch trained as a student of social systems before turning to law. She earned a B.A. in political science and sociology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2002. She later attended The City University of New York School of Law, receiving her J.D. in 2017 after three years in New York.

Her early professional life mixed policy and advocacy. In 2009 she worked as a policy associate for Ipas, an organization known for work on reproductive health and rights. That position preceded a string of legal internships that brought her into both national and state-level work.

While in law school she took on a number of internships that exposed her to civil-rights litigation, public safety systems, and reproductive-justice advocacy. In 2015 she interned with National Advocates for Pregnant Women and served on the Southern Coalition for Social Justice’s Clean Slate Project. The following year she spent time at the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and at the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. Those placements involved research, brief-writing, and support for litigation and policy efforts, and they informed the casework she now handles.

Nininger-Finch returned to North Carolina after law school and holds licensure to practice in the state. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Women Lawyers, and the 10th Judicial District Bar Association, each membership beginning in 2017. Those affiliations place her among local and statewide networks of practitioners who handle both trial and appellate matters.

Her approach to cases reflects a blend of policy experience and courtroom preparation. She brings experience from advocacy organizations and government service into client representation. Her background includes work on issues that intersect with criminal records and public-safety administration, as well as matters tied to reproductive health and the legal protections surrounding it.

She practices from The Law Office of Annelise Nininger-Finch and remains active in the legal community in North Carolina. Her current practice covers civil-rights matters, criminal-justice issues, and cases arising from public-safety and reproductive-health policy.
