About Alex

Alex Shear studied at Cornell University before earning a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. His time at both institutions shaped his approach to legal analysis and writing. He left law school prepared for federal practice and appellate work.

He joined Bona Law PC early in his career. At the firm he has worked on matters that proceed in trial courts and in appellate forums. He is admitted to the bar in New York and holds admissions to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Those admissions allow him to appear in both trial-level federal cases and on appeal.

Colleagues describe Shear as methodical in courtroom preparation and precise in briefing. He has prepared pleadings, motions, and briefs for clients represented by Bona Law PC and has participated in oral arguments in federal court. His work often involves careful statutory and precedential analysis. He balances attention to detail with an eye toward practical outcomes for clients.

Shear maintains an active membership in the State Bar of New York. That membership keeps him engaged with licensing requirements and the professional standards that govern New York lawyers. He participates in the firm’s collaborative case work and contributes to internal review of litigation strategy. At Bona Law PC he works alongside litigators who handle a range of matters that reach federal district courts and appellate panels.

Outside of court filings and hearings, Shear spends time on legal research and drafting. He prepares appellate briefs, district court motions, and related filings that present factual records and legal arguments. His routine includes reviewing trial records, coordinating with witnesses and experts, and refining legal theories. The practice demands clarity and economy of language, two qualities he emphasizes in his written work.

He is part of Bona Law PC’s roster of lawyers admitted in multiple federal jurisdictions and state court. His current practice is centered on litigation and appellate work handled through Bona Law PC, including matters brought in New York state courts and in federal courts where he is admitted to appear.
