About Alex Nicholas

Alex Nicholas Settle built his legal foundation at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. He completed his legal studies there and went on to seek admission in both New Jersey and New York. Those dual jurisdictions frame his work and the courts in which he practices.

After law school, Settle entered public defense. He joined the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, taking on the day-to-day demands of representing people charged with crimes. His work has taken him into state courtrooms across New Jersey and into matters that touch New York, where he also holds admission.

As a public defender, Settle handles a broad range of criminal matters. He prepares cases for trial, conducts factual and legal investigation, and advises clients on procedural choices. In the courtroom he relies on methodical preparation and attention to evidentiary detail. Outside court he engages with prosecutors, investigators and social service providers to address the practical needs surrounding a client’s case.

Colleagues describe his approach as straightforward. He favors clear communication with clients. He explains options and likely outcomes in plain language. He also pays attention to deadlines and procedural requirements that can be decisive in criminal litigation. That pragmatic orientation informs both early case assessment and trial strategy.

Over time Settle has built experience handling the pressures that come with public defense work. He has navigated bail proceedings, pretrial motions and contested hearings, and he has represented clients at all stages of prosecution. He maintains licenses in both New Jersey and New York and continues to practice in those jurisdictions. He currently practices at the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, representing clients in criminal matters in both New Jersey and New York.
