About Alex De
Alex De Marco studied law at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota School of Law, earning his J.D. in 2006 after concentrating on criminal law. He moved into public defense work soon after graduation. The legal training he received at St. Thomas set the groundwork for courtroom practice and client work that followed.
He began his career in the public sector as a lawyer in the Third Judicial District Public Defender's office in 2007. Those early years were spent handling a steady docket of criminal matters. The caseload offered regular trial experience and client counseling under pressure. It also shaped his understanding of indigent defense and the practical realities of public representation.
In 2012 he stepped into private practice as a partner and managing lawyer at Cavaleri & De Marco LLP. Two years later he founded his own firm, The Law Office of Alex De Marco. His transition from public defender to private practitioner reflects a trajectory many criminal defense lawyers follow: courtroom experience in government service, then managing a private practice that handles a range of criminal matters. He holds a license to practice law from the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Outside the office he has been active in several professional organizations. He has been a member of the Minnesota Bar Association since 2010 and served on the Executive Committee of its Criminal Law Section beginning in 2013. He joined the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers' Indigent Defense Committee in 2012. Beginning in 2014 he also became a member of the National Trial Lawyers Association and the American Society of Legal Advocates. Local bar memberships include the Rice County and Dakota County bar associations. His civic and personal pursuits have included long-standing roles at Divine Mercy Catholic Church as a cantor, liturgical minister and youth group director, and earlier participation as a competitor in the North American Strongman Society.
De Marco's practice has centered on criminal defense and trial work in Minnesota. He draws on years of courtroom experience gained in public defense, partnership practice, and running his own office. He handles matters that require trial preparation, client counseling, and case assessment. He currently concentrates his practice on criminal defense in Minnesota.
