About Alan J.

Alan J. Berteau built his foundation in the law through steady academic achievement. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1976. A decade later he completed his Juris Doctor at Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1986.

Soon after finishing law school, Berteau established himself in Louisiana’s legal community. He is admitted to practice in that state and holds memberships in the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Those affiliations reflect regular engagement with professional colleagues and ongoing participation in the bar community.

In 1995 Berteau became a partner at Kean Miller LLP. He has remained with the firm since that time. His long tenure there means he has been part of the firm’s work through multiple legal and economic cycles. Colleagues describe him as a steady presence who contributes to the firm’s institutional knowledge.

Berteau’s career spans decades in which Louisiana law and the local legal environment have changed. He has practiced through shifts in procedure, statutory updates and court decisions that have altered the shape of litigation and counseling in the state. He has maintained active ties to local bar groups, which has kept him connected to developments in practice and to the needs of clients in the region.

Outside of court filings and client meetings, Berteau’s record shows a commitment to professional participation rather than public-facing roles. He remains a current member of the state and local bar associations and of the national association. That steady professional involvement underpins his day-to-day work at the firm and helps inform how he advises clients who need counsel in Louisiana matters.

Colleagues and peers note that continuity can be as valuable as novelty in a law practice. Berteau’s path—academic honors, a law degree from LSU, decades in practice and many years as a partner—reflects a conventional but durable legal career. He continues to operate out of Kean Miller LLP’s offices, representing clients in matters that arise under Louisiana law.

He currently practices at Kean Miller LLP, providing legal services for matters governed by Louisiana law.
