About Ajay
Ajay Choudhary built a career at the intersection of public service and private practice. He studied economics and legal studies at the University of California, Berkeley, earning his B.A. in 1994. He went on to receive his J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law in 1997.
He began his legal career the same year he graduated, joining Coane and Associates as an associate. Those early years were formative. He handled routine litigation and learned the practical demands of contentious practice.
In 2010 he moved into an in-house role as Assistant General Counsel for the Houston Housing Authority. The position put him on the other side of many routine legal issues: compliance, contracts, and regulatory matters that affect public housing operations. It also gave him experience advising a government agency on day-to-day legal risks and on litigation strategy.
Three years later he co-founded Khemka & Choudhary. As a founder and practicing lawyer there, he has managed cases and overseen matters that span courtroom work and transactional advice. His practice draws on experience from both private firms and public-sector counsel work.
Choudhary is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and the related bankruptcy court. He holds board certification in Labor and Employment Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that reflects specialized training and examination in that area.
His caseload includes employment and labor law matters. He handles litigation in state and federal courts and advises on workplace policies and compliance issues. Years at a housing authority inform his perspective on public-sector employment issues and administrative processes, while his private practice work has involved disputes that arise in the commercial workplace.
Clients and colleagues describe him as steady in court and pragmatic at the bargaining table. He tends to favor clear analysis over rhetoric and prefers solving problems early when possible. He remains active in the legal community and maintains admissions across trial and appellate forums.
He is a founding lawyer at Khemka & Choudhary and maintains a practice that focuses on labor and employment law, employment litigation, workplace policy, and related regulatory proceedings.
