About Ahad Ali
After finishing law school in 2019, Ahad Ali Khilji began his legal career inside Colorado’s public defender system. He earned a J.D. from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 2019 after completing a B.A. in political science at The Catholic University of America in 2013. Those years shaped his early approach to criminal advocacy and courtroom work.
Khilji took a post as a deputy public defender at the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender the same year he graduated. There he handled a range of trial-level matters and developed courtroom experience representing clients charged with misdemeanors and felonies. The position placed him in front of judges and juries and required quick legal analysis under pressure.
In 2023, he served as a law clerk at Contact Government Services Federal. That role introduced him to federal procedures and a different set of institutional practices. He worked on research and drafting projects that supported litigation and administrative matters. The clerkship broadened his view of public-sector work and the mechanics of federal cases.
Since 2024 Khilji has been an associate lawyer at Colorado Legal Defense Group. He is listed with the firm’s offices in Loveland and Colorado Springs. In that capacity he continues to handle criminal defense matters while also contributing to case preparation and client counseling. The move to a private defense firm followed several years of public-service practice and a brief federal clerkship.
Throughout his career Khilji has drawn on classroom training and courtroom hours. His academic background in political science laid a foundation in governmental systems and public policy. His legal education emphasized trial advocacy and legal research. On the job he applied those elements to real cases, from initial appearances to contested hearings.
Khilji is licensed to practice in Colorado. He remains engaged in litigation tasks, including motions practice, plea negotiations, and trial preparation. Colleagues describe him as methodical in legal research and practical in client meetings.
He continues to work from Colorado Legal Defense Group’s regional offices and accepts criminal defense cases across the state. He currently practices criminal defense at Colorado Legal Defense Group, handling trial and pretrial matters for clients in Colorado.
